WORLD PREMIERE: BMW X3 M and X3 M Competition– M Division’s Most Deserving SUV

The man from BMW M said no, citing its weight as the reason. The 8 Series was just too heavy to be a proper M car back then. Apparently, the M engineers a few decades later missed the memo because they created an M car out of, at the time, the brand’s heaviest vehicles — the BMW X5 M and X6 M. I was always a bit curious as to why BMW M would do such a thing. I’ve also wondered why BMW M hasn’t worked its magic on the smaller, more nimble X3. Now, though, I needn’t worry any longer, as the BMW X3 M is finally here. This current generation of BMW X3 must be the most deserving of BMW M treatment. While the brand-new X5 might be the best BMW SUV overall, the current X3 i

But before we talk about it and how good it is, we have to take a short trip backward, into the past, for a bit of a history lesson on the original X5 (E53). Back in 1999, BMW released its first ever SUV. Not only did it release its first ever SUV but that very SUV was the first BMW to ever be built in America at the brand’s then-new Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. Now, Spartanburg is a powerhouse of manufacturing, building all of BMW’s rear-drive SUVs for the entire world market. In fact, it’s one of the largest auto manufacturing plants in the U.S., regardless of brand, and the X5 is one of BMW’s best-selling, most important vehicles. In hindsight, it’s easy to see how much of a slam dunk all of thi

The rise of electric cars translates into an increased level of attention offered to everything related to them, including charging. If you ever owned or spent a couple of days with an EV you probably know that the biggest hassle is charging the car. Therefore, BMW is working hard on wireless solutions to make life with an EV seamless. The Bavarians announced the first car in their line-up that will support wireless charging last year. It’s the BMW 530e but, so far, the technology hasn’t been made available. Today, news came down the line that a pilot program has been set up in California to see how things would work out. In order to sign up you need to apply through a short survey found on the Qmerit website. This survey is meant t

Prior to its … There may not have been a bigger drop-off of excitement for a car than when the new Toyota Supra was first revealed. Prior to its reveal, enthusiasts were buzzing with excitement over the possibility of yet another Supra, regardless of which parts it shared with BMW. Yet, after enthusiasts realized it shared virtually everything with the BMW Z4, that excitement started to fizzle. Immediately after its first drives occurred, the internet was awash with criticism for it feeling too BMW-like and not Japanese enough. Is that criticism warranted, though? Does it matter where it feels it comes from like if it’s a really good car to drive? In this new video review from Top Gear, Jack Rix drives the new Toyota Supra to find out. Yes, under the skin, the Toyota Supra is almost entirely a BMW. It has a BMW engine, a BMW-developed chassis, a BMW inter

Nobody was actually surprised to learn that the new car is now built atop a front-wheel drive platform. BMW announced it for quite some time now but some people have been declaring themselves surprised by the car’s design. Since the new BMW has a whole different setup underneath though, that was only to be expected. Now, you can also configure your own and try and find a combination that works. What you should know is that, at the moment, your selection is rather limited. The cheapest model is the 118i, which is the only petrol choice other than the top-dog M135i model. The 118i uses a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter engine making 140 HP and it’s available with a manual gearbox – a rather fun choice at 28,200 Euros. Of course, that starting price doesn’t include a lot, and it will go up fast onc

BMW i3s vs KIA e-Niro vs Hyundai Kona Electric

With its carbon fiber chassis, purely electric powertrain, funky interior and futuristic styling, the BMW i3 seemed like the future. However, just five years later and the i3 is an afterthought in the EV world. Not only that but it’s being challenged by EVs from KIA and Hyundai, two brands that would have been laughed at by BMW enthusiasts back in 2014. Yet here we are in 2019. In this new comparison test from Auto Express, the once-loved i3 takes on the KIA e-Niro and the Hyundai Kona Electric I don’t want to spoil the comparison test for you because it’s worth a read, so I won’t tell you which car wins. However, I will say that BMW better not sleep on Hyundai/KIA. Both of those EVs from South Korea are surprisingly good and the Bava

It seems to … With the release of the new G20 BMW 3 Series, many enthusiasts, including ourselves, are optimistic about the direction of the brand. It seems to be getting back to the basics of proper sports car driving, where even entry-level model cars drive really well. Potentially even more exciting than the 3 Series sedan being so good is the prospect of the upcoming BMW 4 Series. In this new spy video, we get to see that very 4 Series, albeit in Convertible form, lapping the Nurburgring. The reason the 4 Series is such an exciting prospect is because the current generation is already quite good. Sure, it still suffers from some F30-chassis issues, like vague steering and a slight lack of driver engagement overall, but it’s still a great car. If BMW can work similar magic on the much-improved G20 chassis, the next-gen 4 Series will be very
